I adopted Maddie last year from the rescue. She has been an absolute joy. When we first picked her up we were told he would be very shy and had not been eating due to fear but the second we brought her home, she settled in right away. She’s smart, playful, was fully potty trained. Took her about 2 days to learn how to do stairs. She does great with her dog brother Brice and her cat brother Shiloh.
Since being with us, she has found a very special place with all the family especially my father. My father is retired and spends a lot of time at home. For his entire life he has always been a cat person but that changed when he met Maddie. The two of them share such an incredible bond. Now the two are inseparable. I adopted my father’s heart dog completely at random.
Our experience with the rescue has been great and I’m more than sure we’ll be adding another to our family in the near future.

I adopted a pup from you guys just over two months ago named Finn. I seen a post about sharing stories of our rescues! So here is mine and Finn now named Bucky's life together.
We are living such a fun and loving life! I'm so happy and excited to have him. It took him a week or two to get completely comfortable but now he has so much personality. He is for sure a mama's boy and loves to walk either right behind me or under my feet. We love going on long walks, going to new places like Niagara Falls and we even were able to go swimming at a beach! Bucky is so kind and loves everyone he gets the chance to encounter. I can't wait to see where our life's will take us having our Bucky boy.
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to love and care for him.

Lucia (aka Lucie / Lulu) is doing great!
She is quite a diva little and loves to hang with the whole family. Everywhere we go, she is right behind. She especially loves sleeping in bed with us and is good pals with her new sibling Gertie. They do a playful WrestleMania performance for us each day :)
Lucie has been to the vet for a visit, had walks every day and has been exploring her new house and yard. She also been hiking in the woods and has had a bath!
We just love her. She is very smart, walks well on her leash and is super happy in her new home.

I saw your post on FB asking to share some happy tails.
I adopted Brady from TXCR in March 2022. His adoption has changed the world. He inspired me to get involved in dog rescue (I’m now a foster coordinator and foster mom for TEAM Dog Rescue), and I’ve helped rescue 100+ dogs in my work with them. In turn, it inspired my mom and aunt to become rescue adoption coordinators and treasurers.
It’s inspired many friends and neighbours of mine to start fostering and adopting, too. Brady is my heart and soul; he is deeply loved, cherished, and spoiled.
Thank you for trusting me with him and for introducing me to rescue. Dog rescue has become my world and my proudest achievement. I’m forever grateful.

I adopted Peter Pan from Texas chihuahua 2 years ago and it has been the best two years of our lives.
From the moment we saw Peter’s picture on the website we knew he was meant for us. We fell in love instantly and TXCR made it the most easy and happy experience ever. The adoption process was amazing and thorough so I knew this rescue would be the best to go with. Peter Pan is the missing piece of me I didn’t know existed. He is my soul puppy and I love him beyond words.
He came to us found as a stray with his brothers and sisters and mommy and he still has some nervousness issues but we never push him! We are okay with him being this way and never want to make him feel unsafe with us. He loves his walks with his friends and definitely loves dogs more than humans he has his select humans he is okay with but strangers are a no go lol. He is just the sweetest most loving boy and he listens so well. He never touches anything that isn’t his he just knows!
He loves all his toys and never destroys anything he has every single toy I’ve ever bought him but lambies seem to be the favourite. He loves chasing his ball and having cuddles with mommy. Wherever I am my baby is right behind me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I didn’t rescue Peter he rescued me and is so in tune with me and my emotions it is crazy. I know what he wants just by the looks he gives me and his little sassy personality never fails to put a smile on my face. This sweet little soul has brought me so much happiness and love I didn’t think was ever possible.
Thank you for allowing me to take home my greatest gift. I wish I could adopt more but I have figured out Peter is a one man show lol. He likes his kitty brothers and play time with other dogs but he wants his mommy all to himself.
💐 We had to have a backyard wedding just for him to be included in our day that was my only demand for my wedding day lol.
Thank you again for all you guys do.

We rescued Ember just over 4 years ago, and she is doing great. She has lots of dog friends in our neighbourhood and at our campsite.
She has come so far since the scared little girl we brought home 4 years ago. She wrestles with our 2 year old dachshund and has learned to play, hug and kiss and explore the world.
Thanks for our loving and trusting girl!

I wanted to share a little update on Rio-Belle as we approach her Gotcha Day. Rio was adopted on September 8, 2018, and we’re almost ready to celebrate another year together.
Her name, Rio-Belle, was inspired by the Rio Grande that borders Texas and Mexico. It means “beautiful river,” which suits her perfectly, she absolutely loves the water! Whether it’s swimming, boating, kayaking, bath time, or her absolute favorite: chasing water from the garden hose, she’s always happiest when she’s splashing around.
When Rio first came home, it took a little time for her to trust me, and even longer to bond with my dad and brother—but now, you’d never know it. She’s part of the family through and through.
One of the most special parts of our life together is that Rio volunteers with me once a week at the retirement home where I work. She spends about seven hours there brightening the lives of the seniors—and I get the joy of spending that day with her.
She’s sweet, relaxed, and full of everything wonderful. It’s amazing how one picture and a short bio can change your life. The moment I saw her, I knew: “That’s my kid.” I couldn’t wait to bring her home, and what a blessing she’s been ever since.
I live by the motto “Adopt, don’t shop,” and I’m forever grateful to TXCR for rescuing my girl and making it possible for her to find her way to me.
Thanks so much for your time—and for all the work you do.

We adopted Brock, now Bailey, from TXCR in April 2025 and are so happy we did. Bailey lives with us in Toronto but spends the summer months with us here in Portugal, where we have a home in the countryside and can take him to the beach nearby which he loves. Bailey’s size allows us to take him in the airplane’s cabin with us, which is ideal.
Bailey is a big cuddler and he is not an early riser! He often sneaks away mid morning to take another nap in someone’s bed. He’s very expressive, loves kisses, car rides, and toys. He did have some puppy training and is improving some behaviors like barking at other dogs who pass by. He has relaxed a lot in the last couple of months and isn’t barking as much as he was to his triggers. He has basic obedience training and follows us around a lot.
We love Bailey and are grateful to the TXCR for bringing him to us. He’s a wonderful addition to our family.

Just wanted to send an update.
In January I adopted Tilley (TXCR Elsie)
She is wonderful and the perfect dog for me. My true side kick and companion. I knew she needed to be adopted but have come to realize I needed her as much as she needed me .
Thank you TXCR for a perfect match. our family.

This is Pebbles! (her original TXCR name!) We adopted her in September 2017!
It was back when we had to drive to Buffalo to pick her up and bring her home to Canada!
Pebbles just turned 8yrs this past June! She is a funny, quirky little chi who possibly thinks she’s part husky! Being from Texas she still loves the sun but having husky sisters she’s fully embraced Canadian living and loves her winter hikes in the snow!
Pebbles has helped many TXCR fosters adjust to Canadian life while in our home too!
She may be little but she is a big part of our family and we will always be grateful to TXCR for letting us bring this little chi into our home!

When I first met Ziggy - then called Rugby - on May 18, 2018, he was a shadow of the dog he would become. Underweight, with a bit of an Eeyore cloud hanging over him, he carried himself like the world had already been a little too hard for his first two years of live. And yet, all he wanted was to curl up close and be held.
Something shifted the day he came home. Slowly, that sad-eyed pup bloomed into my little soul dog. Every night, he curls at the foot of my bed, and every morning, I wake up cradling him like a teddy bear. Snuggling is his love language - he gives it freely, without hesitation, like it’s the reason he was put on this earth.
Ziggy isn’t just my dog; he’s a heart with fur. He adores his big sister Zooey, and he could spend hours lying in a sunbeam, soaking it in like it’s stitched into his Texas roots. But what makes him truly extraordinary is the way he seems to understand people, especially those who need gentleness the most.
When my grandmother was in the hospital, Ziggy would come with me every day. He’d crawl under her arm and stay pressed against her for hours, never fidgeting, never asking for more than to just be there. Now, with my 93-year-old grandfather, he does the same - walking straight to his side, sitting patiently for as long as he’s needed, like he knows his quiet presence is its own kind of medicine.
I’m endlessly grateful to the Texas Chihuahua Rescue for bringing Ziggy into my life. From a fragile, underweight pup with sad eyes to the dog who heals others just by staying close - he is living proof that sometimes, love doesn’t need words.

My journey with TXCR started when I adopted my first fur baby, Georgie (TXCR Lanna) in February 2019. She is the sweetest, most hilarious, stubborn, adventure-loving, wonderful pup!
Shortly after adopting her, I adopted my Loka (TXCR Lottie) in September 2019. She is equally as wonderful! Hilarious with lots of quirks, which we adore!!!
Fast forward to November 2022, I started fostering as a way to heal my broken heart from earlier that year, and I never could have imagined just how much fostering would change my world for the better. Since then, I have fostered 22 dogs to date, including 1 foster fail, my sweet, scared boy, Jett (TXCR Pepe). He was one of my most complex fosters, he arrived petrified of everything, and is still scared of the world in many ways, but he has come such a long way and continues to make great progress each and every day. As soon as he arrived, we had an undeniable special bond, and after a few months fostering him, I just knew he was supposed to be my boy forever. When you know, you know.
I know we were meant to find each other and I am forever grateful to TXCR for connecting us. Jett is now affectionately known as the “nanny” to all the foster pups that come stay with us - he loves every single one of them and immediately takes them under his wing. He has a special way of making the other scared fosters feel safe - they gravitate towards him.
In addition to our 22 fosters over the years, we have had an additional 20 dogs stay at our house as temporary weekend fosters, so we really have been SO lucky to get to meet and love so many wonderful dogs!!!
Fostering has given me a sense of purpose and has taught me so much about myself, life, unconditional love, patience, and resilience. There are always new challenges that arise but it’s always worth it. Getting to be the soft landing for a scared pup, watching them start to feel safe and blossom in your care, watching their personalities slowly come out, watching them enjoy snuggling into blankets, start to play with toys, wag their tails, want cuddles, get the zoomies - it’s all so special to be a part of. These dogs have taught me more than I could ever teach them.
Each dog that I get to love and care for is 1 of a kind and leaves a special print on my heart when they go home to their forever families. To anyone who is considering fostering, I urge you to give it a shot! I promise you that being the bridge connecting a dog to their forever family is an incredibly heartwarming and fulfilling journey.
The TXCR team is truly amazing in every way, I am beyond grateful to be a part of this wonderful rescue!
