What started as a plea to save one dog in San Antonio, Texas in 2015 quickly grew into a lifeline for countless Chihuahuas and small dogs in desperate need. By 2018, a dedicated team of over 40 passionate Canadian volunteers had officially formed Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc., committed to rescuing dogs at risk of euthanasia and providing loving homes for them in Ontario.
Many Canadians longed to adopt small dogs but wanted to avoid backyard breeders, choosing instead to give shelter dogs a second chance. Social media became a powerful force in raising awareness, bringing together like-minded individuals who believed that every dog deserves a loving home.
In 2021, TXCR Canada proudly achieved official charity status, allowing them to expand their rescue efforts, increase funding opportunities, and further strengthen their commitment to saving lives. Today, they continue their life-saving mission, transporting rescued Chihuahuas across the border from Texas and ensuring they receive the medical care, love, and security they need.

Texas Chihuahua Rescue (TXCR) was founded in 2015 with a mission to save Chihuahuas, one of the most euthanized dog breeds in Texas. The rescue started with just 22 dogs, a handful of fosters, and a lot of hope. By 2017, TXCR had grown so much that they began looking for property to expand their operations. They eventually settled on five acres of land in Pleasanton, Texas.
The property spans five acres, offering plenty of space for the dogs to roam and play under the shade of gorgeous oak trees. Volunteers and staff are present 24/7 to care for the dogs, ensuring they receive medical attention, socialization, and love before finding their forever homes. Every dog that arrives at the ranch is fully vetted before adoption, making sure they are healthy and ready for their new families.
The rescue’s mission is to help small dogs live "BIG dreams," and the ranch plays a crucial role in that effort
